Established in 1986, as a small family owned restaurant, Somerset was run by Rick and Anne, and focused on embracing the enormous shifts that have happened in the NZ food and wine scene over the time the restaurant has been open.
Sustainability, seasonality, food that tastes delicious, along with a sense of place and warmth of hospitality, and enjoyment in what we do, each and every day, were our driving forces.

Our Menu
We offer two sides to our menu: our signature dishes and an ever evolving weekly menu where we get to experiment with seasonal ingredients. We also offer an extensive wine list, a selection of NZ craft beers, and a wide range of pre-dinner drinks.
Cook Schools
The Cook Schools ran for over 25 years and were a regular part of our year and one that we always approached with much enjoyment.
They required nothing from the participants beyond an enthusiasm for good food.
